Roots Run Deep, African American Driving Tours
Our tours can be seen on our new website; www.rootsrundeep.org and also on the Traipse App. Download this free App and look for the Roots Run Deep tours. The Zenda and Harrisonburg tours have been launched. We create a one page map with the stops listed, to be a companion piece to the App and website. We also publish a booklet about the tour, including directions, photos and information about the stops. These documents can be downloaded and printed for your convenience. The printed versions of our tours will be available throughout the Valley as the tours are developed and launched. You can always find these at the SVBHP Heritage Center, 425 Hill Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
We have received two grants in support of our tour. These grants originated with the CARES Act. The $3,520.00 SHARP grant managed by Virginia Humanities was received to support our completing the Rockingham County tour. The $25,000.00 Tell The Full History grant managed by National Trust for Historic Preservation. With this grant we will be able to expand the tour to the rest of the Shenandoah Valley. Stay tuned as we launch our tours throughout the Valley over the next year.
